GET OUT OF THAT BOX, NOW!

Get Out That Box, You’re Suffocating! 

 “You’ve changed up. You aren’t the same, what you think you’re better than me?” Is by far one of my favorite compliments ever. Why? Because it shows that I’ve grown past certain things that were keeping me stagnant. I take pride in my growth and my frontal lobe development.  

What do I mean get out of the box? Well, it’s not as simple as I made it sound. Sometimes  the box can be your environment, your friend group, your home. These are things that often keep people stuck in a cycle. It’s like you have no other way of thinking or operating because you’re so used to these things but as soon as you get an opportunity to leave the box, everything becomes clearer or makes sense. That is your sign right there. 

  Your Aesthetic 

Here is something to dwell on. If you look around your city more times than less you’ll see that everyone fits into a certain style or aesthetic. The Bronx for example, you’ll see a lot of girls wearing biker shorts, tees or crop tops and some Jordan’s. This is like the uniform for the Bronx girlies. Where there isn’t a thing wrong with this aesthetic, it isn’t my aesthetic. I had to step out of the box and embrace my style regardless if anyone likes it or looks like me. That’s kinda the point! Who cares for the stares, who cares if they laugh, at least you’re not looking like everyone. This requires so much confidence however, after your first time stepping out the box the confidence will come in abundance. Not only will you gain self confidence it will also help others to step out of their boxes too. Regardless if they give you credit. You’ll see the impact and influence once you begin to leave the box! 

Behavior and Thought Process

Another way you can step out of the box is by your way of thinking and behaving. Growing up in a toxic home or community does not mean you can’t break free of their habits and poor morals. Forming your own opinions and discerning wrong from right has always been the best way to separate yourself. This elevates you as a human being. I wish more people would normalize having a mindset that break generational trauma, if it were so I really believe the world would be a better place. People would heal and create a safer place for the next generations to come. Emotional intelligence would be a gift everyone would have! 

Your Friend Group

Call it whatever you want but sometimes you have to leave that friend group. They’re holding you back. They’re not allowing you to grow because they’re not growing themselves. A lot of the times the folks we are constantly around haven’t matured past a certain age or point of their lives and they constantly create the same instances over and over again. If you find yourself in a friend group that goes through cycles instead of elevation, you need to gracefully make your exit. It doesn’t have to be a messy one and if it isn’t a pleasant separation then point proven. Stepping out of the friend group to grow is okay. It’s necessary to surround yourself with people who think like you, share values and morals that you cherish and over all respect growth and not see it as switching up. 

When you get out of your box, everything changes. You’ll find yourself in spaces you’ve always wanted to be. Stepping out of your comfort zone also brings you a sense of peace you would never get to experience if you were still staying in what you’re used to.
