So, I’m Actually Going Quiet.

“That was when I began to see that even though I was being influenced online, I hold some influence too!”

I think my style has developed so much that I’m so over trends and logos! Here’s what’s new with my sense of style.

Recently I had a fashion awakening. This article is going to be completely transparent and RAW when it comes to fashion and personal style.

Growing up I wanted to be in the hottest and latest fashion pieces. I wanted to stamp myself in the It Girl books and stay there. I needed the girls to know that I got it like that. I needed to feel trendy because it cured that insecurity in me of not having these things growing up. I always told myself that the things my mom said no to, I’ll get myself and so I did. With this level of honestly being throw at you through your device’s screen, I’m here to add more valuable transparency; I dressed for the girls and the girls ONLY. Quite literally for the girls’ gaze. It was a ‘fit in’ mindset.

Just like majority of women on social media, were always forced to feel like we need to keep up. Whether you want to admit it or not, you may have fell in that category before. It may have been with makeup, clothes, accessories, music, pictures and even iPhones but we’ve all been there. For me, it was always fashion. Growing up, my love for dressing up was an escape. It was my creative outlet, still is. I have an eye that allows me to make the most inexpensive items look super luxurious and high class. I didn’t fully understand that my influence was beyond designer until late last year when I posted a bag I ordered from SHEIN. It was under $20 but the way I styled the bag and my aesthetic photos of the bag drew a crowd on Lemon 8 and TikTok. People thought I was lying about where I purchased my bag from, some even went and bought said bag. That was when I began to see that even though I was being influenced online, I hold some influence too! That proved to me that it really isn’t about logos, it was more about people seeing something that LOOKS expensive and they automatically want it.

No Logos

Now with quiet luxury a trend I’ve witness so many people falling for their idea of what it means. Some people believe it’s minimal colors, no monograms, no logo and less is more. Where I agree with some of those ideas, I’d like to add that gate keeping is apart of that list. Believe it or not, a lot of luxury brands have exclusive lines that are gate kept for their wealthier clients and in all honesty, I dig that. I’m at the stage of my life where I want quality over popularity. I want to invest in items that are not over saturating the market, a ‘If you know, you know” vibe. That era for me is what I’d like to call chic. Not boasting with logos or well known monograms to prove a point. For example, we know the MK logo, we see it on monograms in stores such as TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and the list goes on however many people aren’t aware of The Micheal Kors Collection. The more expensive and exclusive line for wealthier consumers. This collection has literally NO logos and that’s the exact vibe I’m excited about.

 Finally Dressing For Me

I’ve finally tapped into my personal style and I have been embracing my taste. Showing up in things that I genuinely like has been a game changer for me and my confidence. Accessorizing outfit with items that are not easily identified is a new pleasure. Little to no labels but well tailored and beautifully executed outfits have been so much fun putting together especially knowing that the way it was curated is unique to me.

Not fitting in is so chic. Not dressing like every girl on the internet and embracing an essence that I’ve cultivated is maturity in my opinion. Not seeking the gaze from anyone but completely existing as YOU is one of a kind. I quite literally do not want to be ‘twin & em’ with every other girl I see pop up on my FYP but if we are, then I know you’re in the exact season I am in and in that case! TWINNNNNNNN!!!

 Don’t Post It

Another aspect of quiet luxury is not posting everything or telling everyone where I purchased from. Gate keeping if you must. Social media has trained everyone into thinking that we HAVE to share every aspect of your life and I’m here to say, NO! I came across a post that said, “If you don’t post yourself in the Chanel store then your bag is fake.” It just shows how lame social media has made people’s mindset. Which is exactly why I enjoy keeping some things a secret. For example, Jon and I have a favorite restaurant that we’ve visited so many times but we never revealed the name or the location of this place. Why? Because we don’t have to. That’s what I consider quite luxury. Enjoying everyday life and not posting a TikTok about it. We know we can show up to our favorite Sunday evening spot and be seated without the TikTok lore! Somethings are best kept in secrecy.

Frontal lobe development is so important and so broad. It’s not just about how you change behavior wise but it impacts your taste and style and interest too. You’ll want to find new ways to present yourself and being flashy isn’t one of them, for me at least. This fall is the beginning of something special in me. I still enjoy the finer things in life but quietly and mostly off social media. It’s nicer to experience life and not share every aspect of it. It’s opens the door for good in person conversations at events that this new level of growth will bring me.  It brings a sense of mystery to who I am.

Quiet is the new chic. It’s elegant and it’s exclusive.
